Xinhua News Agency, San Francisco, November 15 (Reporter Liu Hua and Tan Jingjing) On November 15, local time, President Xi Jinping held a meeting with US President Biden at the Philo Estate in San Francisco. The two heads of state had a frank and in-depth exchange of views on the strategic, overall and directional issues related to Sino-US relations, as well as major issues related to world peace and development.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the world today is undergoing major changes unseen in a century. China and the United States have two options: one is to strengthen unity and cooperation, work together to meet global challenges, and promote world security and prosperity. The other is to hold a zero-sum mindset that provokes opposition in the camps and moves the world towards turmoil and division. The two choices represent two directions that will determine the future of humanity and the future of the planet. As the most important bilateral relationship in the world, Sino-US relations should be considered and planned in this context. It is impossible for China and the United States not to deal with each other. It is unrealistic to want to change each other. No one can bear the consequences of conflict and confrontation. Great power competition cannot solve the problems facing China, the United States and the world. This earth has room for China and the United States. The respective successes of China and the United States are opportunities for each other.

Xi Jinping profoundly explained the essential characteristics and connotation of Chinese-style modernization, as well as China's development prospects and strategic intentions. Xi Jinping pointed out that China's development has its own logic and laws. China is comprehensively promoting the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with Chinese-style modernization. China does not follow the old path of colonial plunder, nor does it follow the crooked path of hegemony, and does not engage in ideological output. Nor does it engage in ideological confrontation with any country. China has no plan to surpass or replace the United States, and the United States should not have any plans to suppress and contain China.

Xi Jinping pointed out that mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation are not only the experience extracted from the 50-year history of Sino-US relations, but also the enlightenment brought by the conflicts between major powers in history. It should be the direction of joint efforts between China and the United States. As long as the two sides adhere to mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, they can transcend their differences and find the right way for the two major powers to get along. At the Bali meeting last year, the United States stated that it would not seek to change the Chinese system, would not seek a "new cold war", would not seek to oppose China through strengthening alliances, would not support "Taiwan independence", and had no intention of conflict with China. At this San Francisco meeting, China and the United States should have a new vision and work together to build the five pillars of Sino-US relations.

One is to jointly establish the correct cognition. China has always been committed to building stable, healthy and sustainable Sino-US relations. At the same time, China has interests that must be safeguarded, principles that must be defended, and a bottom line that must be adhered. It is hoped that the two countries will be partners, respect each other and coexist peacefully.

The second is to jointly and effectively manage differences. We should not let the differences become a gap between the two countries, but we should find ways to build a bridge between them. The two sides should understand each other's bottom line of principle, do not toss, stir up trouble, do not cross the border, communicate more, have more dialogue, discuss more, and calmly handle differences and accidents.

Third, jointly promote mutually beneficial cooperation. China and the United States have extensive common interests in many fields, including traditional fields such as economy and trade and agriculture, as well as emerging fields such as climate change and artificial intelligence. The two sides should make full use of the mechanisms restored or established in the fields of diplomacy, economy, finance, commerce, and agriculture to carry out cooperation in the fields of drug control, judicial law enforcement, artificial intelligence, and science and technology.

The fourth is to jointly assume the responsibility of a great power. The solution to the problems facing human society is inseparable from the cooperation of major powers. China and the United States should set an example, strengthen coordination and cooperation on international and regional issues, and provide more public goods to the world. The initiatives put forward by the two sides should be open to each other and can also be coordinated and docked to form a joint force.

Fifth, jointly promote people-to-people exchanges. It is necessary to increase direct flights between the two countries, promote tourism cooperation, expand local exchanges, strengthen educational cooperation, and encourage and support more exchanges and communication between the two peoples.

Xi Jinping elaborated on his principled position on the Taiwan issue and pointed out that the Taiwan issue has always been the most important and sensitive issue in Sino-US relations. China attaches importance to the positive statements made by the United States at the Bali meeting. The US side should reflect its position of not supporting "Taiwan independence" in concrete actions, stop arming Taiwan and support China's peaceful reunification. China will eventually be reunified, and it is bound to be reunified.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the United States has continuously taken measures against China in terms of export control, investment review, and unilateral sanctions, which have seriously harmed China's legitimate interests. To suppress China's science and technology is to curb China's high-quality development and deprive the Chinese people of their right to development. China's development and growth has an endogenous logic, which cannot be stopped by external forces. It is hoped that the US side will take China's concerns seriously, take action to lift unilateral sanctions and provide a fair, just and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese enterprises.

The two heads of state recognized the efforts made by the two teams since the Bali meeting to discuss and establish the guiding principles of Sino-US relations, and stressed the need to respect each other, coexist peacefully, maintain communication, prevent conflicts, abide by the Charter of the United Nations, cooperate in areas of common interest, and responsibly control competitive factors in bilateral relations. The two heads of state welcomed the continued discussions between the two teams.

The two heads of state agreed to promote and strengthen dialogue and cooperation between China and the United States in various fields, including: the establishment of an intergovernmental dialogue on artificial intelligence; the establishment of a Sino-US anti-drug cooperation working group to carry out anti-drug cooperation; the resumption of high-level communication between the two militaries on the basis of equality and respect, the Sino-US Defense Department working meeting, the Sino-US maritime military security consultation mechanism meeting, and the Sino-US military theater leadership call; expanding exchanges in education, overseas students, youth, culture, sports and business circles, and so on.

The two heads of state stressed the importance of accelerating joint efforts by China and the United States to address the climate crisis in the current critical decade, and welcomed the recent positive discussions carried out by the climate envoys of the two countries, including: domestic emission reduction actions in the 2020 s, jointly promoting the success of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai (COP28), and launching the China-US "Enhanced Climate Action Working Group in the 2020 s" to accelerate specific climate action.
